Mock Trial 2/6/12 and 2/7/12
Above are the coach, a teammate, and I working on the case booklet, and the team assistant in also with us in the first one. :)
Technical Notes
Yesterday and today I had cram Mock Trial practice for 2 1/2 hours, both days. I just found out that I was going up yesterday, and first competition’s tomorrow, so I’m a little nervous, but it’s cool to see how we can crack down and get our work done when we need to.
All we really did was drill me half to death with planned and speculative questions, and cram the entire statement and facts situation and other miscellaneous information into my head. My newest talents appear to be that I can pretty much now say “American Prima Cotton blue-long-sleeved limited edition Ochio Grosso guest designer Kool” forwards and backwards, three times fast.
Reflection
The only thing is I think some people get a little too snappy when they’re stressed, although that might not be fair to say because they have way more to do than others on the team. But it’s an activity first, you know? Other schools get fiercely competetive but it’s important to have fun, too.
If anything, though I’m learning to work rather well under pressure. And I found out something new about how I learn: I remember things better when people ask me questions, I find the answer, and give it. I think it leaves an impression on my mind or something.
Well.
Technical Notes
Met at lunch with Writer’s Alliance. Not much went down; we found out that the class computers didn’t have software to play the DVD. On the bright side, Mr. Brimhaul [sp?] has decided to lend us his classroom to watch the movie, but if things run on like this [esp. on Wednesdays], then I might just bring my computer to school.
On another note, someone from yearbook came and took a group photo. Only three people stayed out of it [Inkan, Lily, Linda]. I was called out to take my individual President photo today but not enough time, so tomorrow~ Better anyway. I looked like crap by sixth period. Now I can… curl my hair or something.
Reflection
I think I’m getting the hang of this, especially considering I’m doing at least some kind of behind the scenes president work with yearbook. I feel official. I’ve always been a leader sort of person but the way things worked out no one cared to follow much; now I have a sort of respect from others in this club that is a nice change. My friends joined, mostly coz they were my friends, I think, but also because they were interested in writing and they trust my authority on the matter. It’s a great feeling, to be looked up to, and to have others care for the information that I have to share. And now that people are joining not because I asked them to check it out, but because of what we represent— I feel like we’re really taking off the ground. :)
I just hope I’m doing it right. I hope people are benefitting from what I do, especially because we don’t do particularly interesting things, even if my rants and wild gesticulations are somewhat hilarious.
I’m already worrying about what will happen to the club after I graduate [in a year and a half]. The only person I’d trust to run it in my absence is Sierra, but she’s the same grade as I am. And even still. I’m a control freak… Hm.
Thoughts.
Post with 1 note
Since I fail at keeping a journal, this will be my CAS log. We’re allowed to use blogs, and I can make a powerpoint or what-have-you from it later.
The International Baccalaureate [IB] Program was started in Switzerland and aims towards a global education and leads its students by the hand through higher levels of learning, etc. etc. One part of the second half of IB, the Diploma Program [DP], is CAS [Creativity, Action, Service] hours, a minimum total 150 hours of which must be collected between the start of junior year and near the end of senior year, with a relatively close estimate of at least 50 hours in all subjects.
Well, I’m mostly artistic, so I’m racking up my creativity hours, here. What I’llĀ have a hard time with are my action and service hours. I need to find a steady gig for service, which shouldn’t be too hard, and find another source of action income besides dance, which only gives me a half an hour to an hour a week, tops.
And so begins my CAS blog.
